The old mare would stand beside the fence and we would climb on her back, no bridle or saddle. She was very gentle and might sometimes walk a little, but never far. Still, the ground was far away when you were 6 years old! A don’t know if it’s just me, but many of my childhood memories have a golden glow to them, and there were horses and dogs and cats on the farm, and the little river nearby, and trees to climb - I grew up in a truly lovely spot. This painting from a photo is both a memory of an idyllic childhood and a link with my Dad, who took the original photo I used.
